$61 Million Powerball Jackpot

14 January 2002

DES MOINES, Iowa –- (Press Release) -- Jan. 13, 2002 -- The nation's largest lottery jackpot is up for grabs in Powerball. America's Game produced no jackpot winners Saturday night but 369,994 players across the nation won a total of almost $2.7 million in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's Powerball drawing, Wednesday's jackpot will be an estimated $61 million. The cash option for the Wednesday, January 16 drawing will be an estimated $34.6 million.

Five players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The five $100,000 winning tickets were sold in Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Rhode Island. None of those players purchased the Power Play option for $1. If they had, they would have won $300,000.

Twenty-eight players correctly matched four white balls plus the Powerball to win $5,000. Three of those players had the Power Play option and multiplied their prize by three for a total prize of $15,000.

More than 23,000 winning Powerball players spent the extra dollar on Power Play and multiplied their prize by 3. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased 13.3 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

Wednesday night will be the 13th draw since this jackpot run started on December
