$56 Million Ticket Sold at Florida Hospital

JACKSON, Florida – Sept. 7, 2001 –As reported by the Miami Herald: "Was it the nurse on the fourth floor? Carl from the key shop? The late crew in the emergency room?

"Who won it?

"That's the $56 million question at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where the only winning ticket to Wednesday night's Florida Lottery drawing was purchased in its gift shop.

"Speculation ran rampant through the hospital Thursday. But nobody was fessing up to hitting the jackpot, which can be collected in a lump sum of $28,831,655 or 30 annual installments of about $1,879,000 before taxes.

"…`It's all people are talking about,'' said store owner Jason Jason, who said it's the store's only major payout in its 11-year history.

"…The lucky one was bought at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday.

"The curious colleagues may have to wait weeks before solving the case of the mystery millionaire.

"It's not unusual for some time to pass before anyone comes forward, said Alfred Bea, a spokesman for the Florida Lottery. The winner has 178 days left to claim the prize…"
