$43 Million Lottery Prize Claimed

LANSING, Michigan – Jan. 3, 2001 – As reported by the Detroit Now: "A Redford Township man claimed a $43 million Big Game jackpot in Lansing on Tuesday.

"Eban Cooper walked into the Kwicky Party Store in Redford five weeks ago and spent $10 Big Game tickets. He ended up winning the $43 million jackpot, walking out of the state lottery office on Tuesday with $23 million in cash.

"Clutching the giant check, Eban Cooper and his wife Kathy were beaming on Tuesday.

"…Cooper, a hospital manager at Botsford Hospital, said he stopped on a whim at the party store near his house in Redford. He knew the jackpot was $43 million for the next day, and he thought he should buy some tickets. He found out the next day that he was the winner.

"…`I checked the numbers and I checked them again and then probably four or five more times,' he said…"
