$4.2 Million Wheel of Fortune Jackpot at Sahara26 June 2000LAS VEGAS, June 26 (Press Release) -- A 67-year old Washington building contractor struck it rich early Monday morning when he hit a $4.2 million dollar jackpot on Wheel of Fortune Quarters at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Laszlo Zsitvay of Mercer Island, Washington, said he had invested about $80 when the trio of Wheel of Fortune logos clicked into place. ``I knew I won the progressive and the lady at the next machine said the jackpot was worth 4 million but I thought she meant 4 million quarters. It was only later that I realized it was 4 million dollars!'' Zsitvay and his wife, Joann, are in Las Vegas to attend her family reunion. Zsitvay is a Hungarian refugee who came to the United States in 1959 after the aborted uprising in his homeland was squelched by the Soviet Union. When asked what they intend to do with the money, he said that they'll accelerate their plans to retire. ``I think actually that Joann retired just a short while ago,'' he said with a grin. The slot supervisor on duty, Mary McMahon, said this was the third Wheel of Fortune jackpot to hit at the Sahara in about two years. ``It's exciting for us when a jackpot creates a new millionaire,'' she said. The Wheel of Fortune win follows a $235,000 ELVIS MegaJackpot in Primm, Nevada on Saturday. Wheel of Fortune Quarters and ELVIS are two of 16 Nevada MegaJackpot systems developed by IGT. Based on the world's most popular game show, Wheel of Fortune quarters is a three-coin game offering a top jackpot that builds from a base of $200,000. All IGT MegaJackpots are paid in annual installments upon verification, except Slotopoly, Party Time, The Addams Family and ELVIS which are paid in their entirety upon verification. |
