$25 Million Gambling Ring Busted27 January 2003BROOKLYN, New York – As reported by the New York Daily: "A $25 million gambling ring in Brooklyn was sidelined by the arrests of nine alleged bookies in an annual Super Bowl roundup by District Attorney Charles Hynes. "The bust, dubbed `Operation Kings Flush,' is a 12-year annual tradition for Hynes to draw attention to illegal sports betting. "…Hynes said the alleged bookies, who also worked in Queens, have ties to the Gambino crime family. "…Hynes said illegal sports betting is used by organized crime to finance prostitution, drug-running and other illicit activities. He noted it also deprives the city of much-needed tax revenue…" |
