$125 Million Superlotto Jackpot Busts Record22 June 2001CALIFORNIA – June 22, 2001 –As reported by the Contra Costa Times: "California has the largest single-state jackpot in the nation's history with the prize escalating to over $125 million, and it just seems to keep growing. "In the 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. hour preceding Wednesday's draw -- which did not produce a winner -- lottery officials tallied a stunning $4.6 million in sales. A repeat of that last-minute flurry of ticket-buying is likely to happen tomorrow as well, according to Lottery spokeswoman Cathy Johnston. "Lottery officials are meeting this morning to check on whether the SuperLotto Plus jackpot has increased yet again. "…The last time the stakes got so high was in 1991, when the jackpot hit $118.8 million, but there were 10 winning tickets in that draw…" |
