Wisconsin Voters to Decide on Racino Proposal

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: "Kenosha residents will vote again this November on a proposal to build a huge tribal casino at a dog track. Supporters and opponents have lined up to sway voters in the advisory referendum.

"Backers say the casino would bring thousands of new jobs and millions of dollars to the area, while opponents say it would be an economic drain that could leave Kenosha open to broken promises from the Menominee tribe.

"The proposal, which would convert Dairyland Greyhound Park into federal trust land, has been billed as the biggest grossing casino in Wisconsin. State and federal approval also are required.

"Voters endorsed a previous Menominee plan for the site in 1998, but the deal died when then-Gov. Scott McCallum refused to endorse any casino expansion. Federal officials also raised a series of questions…"
