Waterloo Casino Money Distributed

WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the Waterloo Cedar-Falls Courier: "The City Council has approved distributing an initial $50,000 of casino fees to seven youth agencies or activities.

"Following up on a commitment made to Mayor Tim Hurley last month, the council committed the money to be used under a new program to provide educational, recreational and employment opportunities to at-risk children and teens, called the Youth Essential Skills, or YES program.

"…Additional funds have also been committed from the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce board of directors and Mayor's Youth Initiative funds.

"…Council members acted after Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., which will build a casino near Lost Island Adventurepark south of Crossroads Center, formally issued the city checks totaling $3.5 million in cash advances and gifts for various projects…"
