Water pipe burst silences slots

23 December 2008

LONDON, Ontario -- As reported by The London Free Press: "Western Fair's slot machines fell silent today after a burst water pipe forced the closure of the popular gambling facility.

Official with Ontario's lottery commission said in a statement the site was closed "to ensure the safety of the public and staff." One employee said the pipe burst early Monday morning.

The slots will be operating again by 6 p.m., Western Fair official said.

Since the slot machines arrived in 1999, there have been few quiet days at Western Fair: Revenues have been bigger than most expected, with the City of London's five per-cent cut totaling about $30 million so far.
