Gaming NewsTwo sentenced in Borgata sports betting ring16 February 2009MAYS LANDING, New Jersey -- As reported by The Press of Atlantic City: "Two men have been sentenced in a sports gambling ring operated out of an Atlantic City casino's poker room. "Joseph Wishnick and Robert Mackie pleaded guilty Dec. 15 to third-degree promotion of gambling charges in the bookmaking ring housed in the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. Both said they were agents of the ring. "Twenty-four people were charged in the scheme allegedly headed by Jack Buscemi Jr., 51, of Harrison Township, Gloucester County, who also pleaded guilty in December. The ring took in more than $60 million in bets in its 20 months of operation. "Wishnick, 44, of Brigantine, must serve 270 days in county jail as a condition of a three-year term of probation. He is a former supervisor at the Borgata poker room. Mackie, 40, of Staten Island, N.Y., was sentenced to two years' probation. Each also must pay a $3,000 fine.
