19 May 2009

KANSAS CITY, Kansas -- As reported by The Kansas City Star: "The two remaining proposals for a casino in Wyandotte County cleared planning and zoning hurdles Monday during a special meeting at City Hall.

"The Kansas City, Kan., Planning Commission recommended approving the revision of a preliminary plan for the $387 million first phase of a Hard Rock Hotel & Casino next to Kansas Speedway.

"The Planning Commission also recommended approving a change of zoning petition and a special-use permit for the $320 million first phase of a Hollywood-themed casino next to the Schlitterbahn water park resort site, east of Interstate 435 and north of State Avenue.

"The two proposals are vying to manage a state-owned casino made possible by legislation approved two years ago..."
