Scott Evans is scheduled for training Monday on how to use a crane in a rescue. But he received an impromptu lesson Tuesday after an ironworker became trapped at the site of the Showboat Casino Hotel expansion. "Two workers were injured Tuesday in separate incidents at the Showboat and the Tropicana Casino Resort. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, sent an investigator to both sites, spokeswoman Kate Dugan said. "The first accident came in as a medical call at 9:01 a.m., Evans said. But while the engine was en route to the Showboat scene, a call came in that a worker had fallen and was injured. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene at 9:06 a.m., they were told that a worker was trapped 120 feet in the air. "The ironworker apparently slipped while climbing down from a crane and fell onto one of the platforms, Evans said. The "At the Showboat site Tuesday, the second crane had a man basket, which is used to raise workers to high areas. First, two paramedics and a firefighter rode up. The paramedics stayed with the victim while the firefighter came down to apprise emergency personnel of the situation, Evans said. "…Evans said the rescue still would have been possible without the crane, but it would have taken more time - and ingenuity. He said the aerial ladder likely would have been used and then firefighters would have had to climb the rest of the way and set up rigging to lower the victim…" |
