Gaming NewsTurning Stone caterers denied liquor license26 October 2007NEW YORK -- As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "The state is threatening to stop caterers from serving alcohol at Turning Stone Resort and Casino - a move that resort officials say could all but shut down Turning Stone's extensive wedding and convention business. "Although the state has granted thousands of permits to caterers since 2002 for Turning Stone events, it last week reversed course and said state law forbids any alcohol at the resort, run by the Oneida Indian Nation. "...[Nation lawyer Peter Carmen] said the Liquor Authority did not explain its reversal. It came, however, just days after the nation resumed its policy of allowing people to bring alcohol to concerts, restaurants and hotel rooms at the resort. "...Carmen said the millions of dollars spent on Turning Stone's convention center, hotels, golf courses and spa were aimed at bringing people in for special events like conventions and weddings. Without those events, the resort would have to lay off employees, he said..." |
