Thunderbird's future unclear

YAKIMA, Washington -- As reported by the Yakima Herald-Record: "Off-track betting has resumed at Thunderbird Casino and Lounge in Yakima, but the fate of the casino itself remains unclear.

"Satellite wagering for area horse racing fans resumed Friday, three days after the casino voluntarily closed amid financial troubles.

"Emerald Downs of Auburn, authorized by the state to operate off-track betting, has worked out an agreement with the casino operators, said Paul George, a former Yakima mayor and member of the Washington State Horse Racing Commission.

"Although not privy to the terms of the agreement, George said satellite wagering for horse racing fans will continue at the casino Wednesdays through Sundays..."
