The Reel Life: Pants on fire edition16 March 2017
A lawyer in Florida (where else) had his pants catch on fire during a trial last week.
Attorney Stephen Gutierrez was defending a client who had been accused of setting his own car on fire, because of course this was going to happen during an arson case.
Gutierrez was literally in the middle of arguing that the car had actually spontaneously combusted when one of the electric cigarette batteries he was carrying in his pants pocket did the same.
Employees of fact-checking sites across the internet agonized over whether to rate this story as "true" because it is true or as "pants on fire" because the guy's pants were on fire.
Gutierrez reports that he has decided to give up using e-cigarettes because, "after careful research," he has discovered that they can unexpectedly explode.
We also like to claim we were "doing research" when we do stupid things or wind up in embarrassing situations, but we're not sure it works here.
