The Philippines: New casino applications suspended

MANILA, Philippines -- PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.) is not allowing any new "gambling franchises", according to a Philippine Daily Inquirer report.

The announcement follows the President's decision to stop the proliferation of gambling facilities in the country, the report said.

A Pagcor representative stated there was no link between talk of privatizing Pagcor and this move to cease further gambling franchises, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
