Gaming NewsTerrible's Bounces Back21 April 2006COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "Terrible's Lakeside Casino in Osceola has rebounded sharply the past three months after losing droves of customers last year when Altoona's gambling operation introduced casino table games. "Between January and March, Lakeside drew 284,000 patrons, up 29.5 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Gross gambling revenues totaled $15.1 million, up 13.4 percent from a year earlier. "The big gains can be attributed to several factors, including $18.3 million in renovations to the casino complex and better marketing that includes a glitzy, 132-foot-tall sign on Interstate Highway 35 that features 'Mr. Terrible,' said Damon Butler, Lakeside's general manager. "…Commissioner Jack Ketterer said it's clear that increased spending to upgrade the casino complex is paying off for Lakeside, which is owned by the Herbst family of Nevada…" |
