Tax judge nails Toronto poker player

17 June 2011

TORONTO, Ontario -- A poker player, who declared his loss as a business expense, has had his lawsuit dismissed, the Globe and Mail reported.

Steven Cohen left his job as a lawyer to play poker full time, had some success but then lost $122,000 and gave it up, the report explained.

Revenue Canada objected to his filing this loss as a "business expense" and the outcome of Mr Cohen's lawsuit -- that contended his poker playing was a business -- saw the judge side with Revenue Canada, The Globe and Mail reported.
