Supreme Court Rules Against Gulfstream

FLORIDA—As reported by the South Florida Business Journal: "Tampa Bay Downs may continue to join Gulfstream Park in retransmitting telecasts of out-of-state races to other Florida pari-mutuels.

"In a decision released Thursday, the Supreme Court of Florida ruled against Gulfstream's request to stop Tampa Bay Downs from taking live telecasts of thoroughbred races in other states and retransmitting them to other pari-mutuel sites in Florida.

"Gulfstream, in Hallandale Beach, began simulcasting races in 1996, under a state law passed that year permitting Florida thoroughbred tracks to simulcast races from other states.

"In 2003, Tampa Bay Downs began retransmitting out-of-state thoroughbred race signals to other Florida pari-mutuels.

"Tampa Bay Downs, in Oldsmar, has been carrying out that activity under terms of a 2000 federal law on simulcast wagering…"
