St. Louis casinos face new competition

MISSOURI -- As reported by the Business Journal: "Admissions and revenue declined in December at three St. Louis area casinos as they faced new competition with the opening of the $507 million Lumiere Place downtown casino and entertainment complex.

"The Missouri Gaming Commission reported Thursday that Lumiere Place had 317,187 admissions with revenue of $6.1 million after opening Dec. 19.

"...[President Casino's] reveue last month was $3.89 million, a 32 percent drop from the $5.68 million in revenue it generated in December 2006.

"...[Harrah's St. Louis Casino and Hotel] December revenue dropped 11 percent to $25.28 million from $28.51 million in the same month last year.

"Revenue for Ameristar Casino-St. Charles decreased 11 percent..."
