Gaming NewsSlander case against Grand Casino dropped12 October 2007MISSISSIPPI -- As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "Former Circuit Judge John Whitfield claimed he was slandered by Grand Casino and Tom Brosig, then a regional vice president of the casino's parent company, but the case has been dismissed in the wake of Whitfield's conviction in a judicial bribery case. "Brosig's attorney, Gail D. Nicholson of Gulfport, said Whitfield made no effort to pursue his accusations after he filed the lawsuit in 2003. Whitfield chose to have the case dismissed after he received notice that he would have to submit to pre-trial questioning under oath, Nicholson said. The Circuit Court case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can no longer be pursued. "Whitfield was convicted earlier this year in federal court of accepting $140,000 in bribes in 1998 from former Biloxi attorney Paul Minor in exchange for favorable rulings in two of Minor's cases..." |
