Gaming NewsSeminole Coconut Creek Casino to Get Makeover15 December 2004FLORIDA – As reported by the Florida Sun-Sentinel: " The Seminole Coconut Creek Casino is on the verge of a major makeover, a move that is expected to put the gambling hall on par with the glitzy Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino in Hollywood. "James Allen, the head of the tribe's gaming operations, recently unveiled plans to expand the 20,000-square-foot site six-fold into a high-end resort offering several restaurants, shops, a hotel, coffee shop and spa. "…The new complex is expected to draw major development to the 400-acre swath of open land between State Road 7 and Lyons Road where city officials want to develop a high-end urban destination offering residential units, restaurants and shops. The casino sits on the area's southern tip. "City Manager John Kelly said the area is pretty much barren, but the upcoming resort will be the first swank project, and other developers are expected to follow. "…Residents no longer complain about the casino because it's been such a lucrative deal for Coconut Creek, with the tribe paying the city an annual $1.5 million, he said. It also hasn't brought the traffic, crime and other headaches they once feared…" |
