Sedgwick County rejects gaming expansion

KANSAS -- As reported by the Wellington Daily News: "...Lucky seven came through for Sumner County on Tuesday, August 7, when two ballot questions on expanded gaming were voted down in Sedgwick County.

"Sumner County now has the exclusivity to host a destination-based resort casino under the state's new expanded gambling law.

"Voters struck down two ballot measures aimed at allowing a resort casino and adding slot machines to Wichita Greyhound Park.

"...The reaction among gambling supporters was swift, as Doug Lawrence, executive director of the Kansas Greyhound Association, said the owners of Wichita Greyhound Park plan to close the park within 90 days, eliminating around 300 jobs..."
