Gaming NewsSaskatchewan City Responds to Casino Smoking19 April 2005REGINA, Saskatchewan – As reported by the CBC: "The mayor of the smoke-free city of Yorkton wants to talk to the Sakimay band about a First Nations casino's decision to allow smoking again. "Yorkton banned smoking from enclosed public places in 2004. "The city's Painted Hand Casino did too, although it's on urban reserve land under Sakimay jurisdiction. "According to Mayor Phil DeVos, under a municipal service agreement, the band agreed to pay fees and abide by city and provincial laws in return for such services as water and sewer. "…DeVos said if the agreement means anything, the no-smoking bylaw should apply to the casino…" |
