Saratoga Casino to host blood drive

23 January 2017

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Saratoga Casino Hotel is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a Blood Drive on Monday, 30 January. Members of the local community are urged to join dozens of Saratoga Casino Hotel team members to give blood on Monday, 30 January from noon to 6 p.m. inside the hotel ballroom.

The blood drive comes as the Red Cross is experiencing a severe winter blood shortage, as they recently issued an emergency call to donors to give now, so patients can continue receiving the lifesaving treatments they need. Right now, blood products are being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in.

"There is a serious need for blood and platelet donors immediately," remarked Patty Corvaia, Communications Manager for the New York – Penn Blood Services Region. "Donations are needed now to meet the needs of hospital patients and in the coming days and weeks. If you've ever considered giving blood and helping to save lives, now is the time to do it."

To date, Saratoga Casino Hotel has collected over 1,000 blood donations at their biannual blood drives. The collections have gone on to directly help over 3,000 patients in need.

"Our team members and community always respond with tremendous generosity to our blood drives," said Tom Wiedmayer, General Manager at Saratoga Casino Hotel. "We consider ourselves lucky to be in the position to act as a donation site for the Red Cross as we try and help them out during their shortage."

All presenting donors at this year's Blood Drive will receive a $5 Dunkin' Donuts Gift Card and a $10 voucher to Perks Café, located in the hotel lobby. Donors are encouraged to make an appointment prior to the 30 January Blood Drive. To schedule a time, call 518-581-5774 or visit the Red Cross website.
