Gaming NewsSands Workers to Get Support14 September 2006"ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "State, local and union officials Wednesday outlined their plan to aid casino workers who will be forced into unemployment when the Sands Casino Hotel shuts down this fall. "Calling a plan by Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment to buy, then knock down the city's smallest casino to make way for a billion-dollar resort a bittersweet development, Sands President and CEO George Toth said he and his staff are doing everything they can to make certain the casino's 2,100 workers find employment opportunities. "…As soon as the Pinnacle plan was announced last week, the state Department of Labor sent its rapid response team to the resort to start assisting workers. "Labor Commissioner David J. Socolow said Wednesday his department will hold a variety of training and workshop seminars for employees, focusing on finding work, writing resumes and even new-skill training…" |
