Gaming NewsRock Island Casino Move Approved19 October 2005ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – As reported by the Quad-Cities Online: "The Illinois Gaming Board delivered a whale of a decision for Jumer's Casino Rock Island and the city Tuesday, approving a request to move the casino to the city's southwest side. "On a 5-0 vote met by applause, the board, meeting in the Rock Island City Council chambers, approved the casino's request to move to the southwest corner of Interstate 280 and Illinois 92. "Approval came after months of waiting for gaming board members to be appointed by Gov. Rod Blagojevich and a legislative fix to be passed to clear up a legal challenge made by the Illinois Attorney General's Office. "…The casino first considered a move off the Mississippi River six years ago. It wants to build a $90 million casino and hotel complex at the site in two phases. "Casino Rock Island president Ron Wicks noted the board still has to approve architectural designs and the financing package. The board also wanted updates on the casino's relationship with its neighbors and greater diversity in its senior staff…" |
