Rivers Casino generates $9.3 million for area libraries

9 April 2018

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Rivers Casino is helping the Allegheny County Library Association do a little "bookkeeping" with a generous ledger entry. Since opening in 2009, Rivers Casino has generated $9.3 million for the county's libraries.

Specifically, the library money is generated from table games taxes paid by Rivers. In 2017 alone, Allegheny County's libraries received $1.2 million from Pittsburgh's popular North Shore casino and entertainment venue. Contributions are made quarterly.

"Rivers Casino is proud to support the Allegheny County Library Association," said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations for Rivers Casino. "Libraries add substantially to the quality of life in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, and we're grateful to the workers and administrators who keep our libraries vital."

Later this month, Rivers Casino Community Champions, the casino's fleet of Team Member volunteers, will visit the Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Oakland to sort books, read with kids and provide additional support for library staff. The Community Champions annually donate more than 2,000 volunteer hours to Pittsburgh-area nonprofits.

Throughout April, visitors to Rivers Casino can donate extra slot vouchers and chips at the "PITTSBURGH PROUD" display wall located at the garage entrance to the gaming floor, near the elevators. Rivers will match donations up to $1,000 and proceeds will benefit Carnegie Library.
