Rising Sun, Indiana and Grand Victoria Announce Program to Spur Business Growth

19 April 2005

RISING SUN, INDIANA -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Mayor of Rising Sun Bill Marksberry has announced a new relationship with Grand Victoria Casino to launch an initiative to stimulate business for the 100 local business owners.

The announcement includes the appointment of Daryl Paddock, Director of Sales for Grand Victoria Casino, as a loaned executive for the soon-to-be-formed Rising Sun Business Association. Paddock, a veteran sales and marketing executive, will lead the group of merchants in developing business plans and devote a percentage of his time to the effort.

The Rising Sun Business Association, which is free and open to any business in Rising Sun, will tackle additional initiatives including: consistent business hours and customer service, cross-promotions with the various merchants as well as the Casino and major annual events. The Association will also foster business networking and development opportunities.

The formation of the Business Association is a result of a year-long study conducted by the city's tourism officials, which included a branding study and a communications study. Some of the results indicated lack of cross promotional marketing with the Casino, opportunities to strengthen signage and increase communications among merchants on Rising Sun's Main Street artery.

"We now know we need to do more than open our doors to attract a percentage of the two million people annually visiting Grand Victoria," said Mayor Marksberry. "This initiative will bring together our businesses and establish a strategic working relationship with the Casino to market to these visitors."

"Grand Victoria is pleased to offer a leadership role in the formation of the Rising Sun Business Association," said Scott Cooper, General Manager of Grand Victoria Casino. "It's important to our efforts that we are surrounded by a thriving destination of Rising Sun supported by strong businesses."
