Gaming NewsResorts Opens Door to Lawsuit26 September 2006HAMMOND, Illinois -- As reported by the Post-Tribune: "An Illinois man who says he was dragged, naked, out of his room at Resorts hotel in East Chicago in a case of mistaken identity is suing the casino for $60 million. "Omar Abbas, 40, of Justice, Ill., said he was asleep and undressed when Resorts security began pounding on his door at 4 a.m. March 16. "After security guards hauled him into the hallway, they realized that Abbas was a comped guest of the hotel, not someone who had sneaked into an empty room. "But instead of making apologies, Abbas' suit alleges he overheard a plot by security staff to lure him back to the casino and entrap him into a compromising situation in hopes of blackmailing him to keep him from suing. "Resorts attorney Jack Thar said Monday the casino had not yet been served with Abbas' complaint, but said Resorts officials had been contacted regarding the incident before Abbas filed the suit. "'The allegation (that Abbas was dragged from his room naked) is completely false and (Resorts) will aggressively defend themselves from that,' Thar said..." |
