Representative says Massachusetts casinos three years away

26 October 2009

BOSTON, Massachusetts -- A state representative said not to expect casinos in Massachusetts for at least three years, the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune reports.

State Rep. Brian Dempsey, the chairman of a committee studying casinos, says not to expect casinos until 2012 at the earliest, assuming state lawmakers approve the issue.

Dempsey and his committee are currently writing a bill that would allow casino gambling, according to the Eagle-Tribune. The state would get a cut from all casino profits.

He said that casinos won't be a "silver bullet" fix for the state's budget woes, the Eagle-Tribune reports.
