Gaming NewsPresque Isle Downs workers feel the pinch23 January 2008PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Erie Times-News: "Presque Isle Downs & Casino is feeling the financial pinch of a slow winter season -- and now so are some of its employees. "About 200 employees, including 150 full-time workers, are getting fewer hours per week during what casino Chief Executive Richard Knight called a slow time for the industry. The casino employs about 800 people. "Some employees started seeing smaller paychecks as early as November, but more workweek reductions started in December and have continued this month, he said. "The affected full-time employees are working four days per week, instead of five, and the part-time employees are also losing about eight hours per week. The part-timers generally had worked an average of 25 hours per week, he said. "Knight said he expects that the employees' hours will increase again as business increases..." |
