Prairie Meadows Opposes Casino

IOWA – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "A Prairie Meadows Racetrack lobbyist and other supporters of the Altoona, Iowa, racing and gambling operation have formed an organization to oppose the building of another casino in the area and have begun an advertising blitz.

"Voters in three central Iowa counties west and south of Des Moines will decide on November 2 whether to support another gambling operation. Businessman Gary Kirke has proposed building a $150-million operation in Dallas, Madison, or Warren Counties.

"…An Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission study found that a casino in one of Kirke's three proposed counties could cost Prairie Meadows 40% of its revenue…"
