Prairie Meadows gets state-designed racing schedule

IOWA -- Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino are to adopt a state-designed racing schedule for 2010, according to a report in the Des Moines Register.

This is due to a failure to reach consensus with horse owners' groups.

Track officials had been pushing to reduce emphasis on quarter horse and standardbred racing because of its unpopularity among punters, according to the report.

The racing commission refused the track's proposal as too radical a change, the Des Moines register said.
