Gaming NewsPhiladelphia Park casino not off table15 June 2007PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Bucks County Courier Times: "A $300 million casino is still in the cards for Philadelphia Park in Bensalem. "Casino owner Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment on Thursday asked the state to ignore an earlier petition that sought to scrap construction of a standalone slots parlor. "The announcement comes after harsh criticism from racing fans and local lawmakers who were upset that slots would remain in the existing racetrack grandstands. "The company said $136 million was spent to convert the grandstands into a first-rate slots parlor, and asked for permission to have those grandstands labeled as a 'permanent' casino. "...The Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association had filed a letter of protest with the state, demanding that the standalone casino be built. The association's president said disgust among horse fans was evidenced by declines in betting at the racetrack..." |
