Gaming NewsPalace Casino Opens Sports Zone30 January 2004BILOXI, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Sun-Herald: "A visit to the ESPN Zone in Atlanta gave Palace Casino General Manager Keith Crosby the idea for the Biloxi resort's $15 million expansion, set to open Sunday. "…After six months of construction, the Palace Sports Zone will open Sunday, in time for the Super Bowl. Fifty employees have been hired to work in the Sports Zone, which features about 50 televisions hooked up to DirecTV, more than 300 slot machines and a 300-foot-long ticker, continuously running the latest scores and statistics from ESPN. "The Sports Zone, which is 15,000 square feet, is the first significant expansion of gambling space in a Coast casino since Copa Casino moved into a new barge in September 2002. "…The goal of the Sports Zone, Crosby said, is to give customers the feeling that they're in a Vegas sports book. Leather theater-style seats and sofas are placed in front of the wall-sized TV at the east end of the barge…" |
