Gaming NewsOregon Tribe Buys Golf Club20 April 2005OREGON – As reported by the Oregon News-Guard: "After a year-and a-half of rumors and speculation, it's official – The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and Chinook Winds Casino Resort have purchased the Lakeside Golf Course and Health Club. "Jim Kikumoto, general manager of Chinook Winds, said the property was officially signed over to the casino and tribe at midnight on Saturday. "…The golf course and health club, located on Northeast 50th Street, was purchased by the casino from Lakeside LLC, owned by four partners for more than 11 years, said Patrick Terrell, one of the partners. "…Besides the golf course, the casino and tribe have purchased 40-plus acres directly north of the golf club, which will be used to expand the golf course from a nine-hole executive course to an 18-hole resort course, which Kikumoto said will help attract more golfers to the area, and will be a good complement to The Salishan Lodge and Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach. "…A resort golf course to complement the hotel and casino would help Chinook Winds expand its market to golf enthusiasts – many of whom go to courses in areas such as Florence and Bandon Dunes, Kikumoto said. He's hopeful this new expansion will make the proposed course, along with the Salishan course, a way to position the area as a destination for golfers…" |
