Gaming NewsOklahoma casino earns national award21 September 2011DURANT, Oklahoma -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Choctaw Casino Resort, located in Durant, Oklahoma, has been honored by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESA) with the prestigious 2011 Award of Merit, in recognition of its exemplary lighting design. The honored design is featured on the exterior of the $300 million Choctaw Casino Resort, which opened in 2010, and includes 27 LED lighting groups, making the structure visible for miles. Every facet of thelights are controlled and used to create wave patterns and other eye-catching effects. According to Janie Dillard, executive director of gaming for the Choctaw Nation, “Our vision for the new Choctaw Casino Resort was to create an iconic design that has grand scale is easily recognizable. And judging by the notoriety we’ve received from prestigious design groups, it appears we were successful!” In addition to the Award of Merit, Choctaw Casino Resort has been honored with the 2011 Lumen West Award of Excellence from the Los Angeles Chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESLA). Evaluation of the design acknowledged Choctaw CasinoResort as exemplifying excellence in lighting design. Criteria was based specifically on problem solving, concept originality and solutions that take into consideration visual comfort, lighting concept, energy and environmental design implementation, budget restrictions and ease of maintenance. When Choctaw Casino Resort underwent its $300 million in renovations in 2010, it was constructed with an iconic design featuring many shapes and elements, including a dynamic diamond-shaped pattern that represents the western diamondback rattlesnake’s skin pattern - a sacred symbol to the Choctaw Nation. Many other aspects of the design pay homage to traditional Choctaw art. |
