Official: Tribal Casino Smoking Unfair

MANITOBA – As reported by the Winnipeg Sun: "The province should step in and force the First Nations-run casino near Grand Beach to go smoke free, says the Opposition Tory's deputy leader.

"Glen Cummings said yesterday the NDP government should break the existing gaming agreement it has with South Beach Casino.

"It should be re-written to make having a smoke-free environment a condition of getting a gambling licence, he said.

"…The casino -- which is operated by a group of First Nations -- is scheduled to open this Saturday. It's located in Scanterbury, about 50 km north of Winnipeg near Grand Beach in Scanterbury.

"Premier Gary Doer repeated the province doesn't have jurisdiction over smoking on First Nations, just like it doesn't have jurisdictions over military bases or federal jails…"
