NSW receives $1.65 billion from gambling

AUSTRALIA -- As reported by the Brisbane Times: "Taxpayers paid more than $300 billion last financial year in taxes paid to every level of Australian government: federal, state and local.

"The average Australian parted with $12,564 to the Commonwealth and $2792 to their state and local governments.

"However, ahead of the federal May budget, the figures show that federal taxes, including the GST, fell slightly as a proportion of gross domestic product from 25.3per cent the previous financial year to 25per cent.

"...NSW also remains the biggest recipient of taxes from gambling, at $1.65 billion a year. Two-thirds of this was raised on poker machines, with the rest generated by the government lottery, casino taxes and race betting..."
