Now Gamblers Can Drink Away Sorrows at Betting Facility

VINTON, Virginia -- As reported by the Roanoke Times: "The taps are flowing, the corks are popping and the jiggers are dancing.

"Vinton's off-track betting parlor has alcohol for sale.

"The Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board approved Colonial Downs' application Tuesday, the local ABC office delivered the license Wednesday and the OTB began serving alcohol Thursday morning.

"'White Russians, fuzzy navels, whatever you can think of,' said Ronnie Blankenship, the site's food and beverage manager.

"Business hadn't picked up a lot by midafternoon, Blankenship said Thursday. He thought that might change after people started getting off work.

"...Colonial Downs, the only parimutuel horse racing track in the state, opened its Vinton facility Oct. 11..."
