Nooksack casino liquor license in jeopardy

24 November 2006

WASHINGTON – As reported by the Bellingham Herald: "A liquor license application from the Nooksacks' Northwood Crossing Casino may be denied because of protest letters from local government officials, according to a spokeswoman from the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

"…The casino is being built by the Nooksack Indian Tribe on tribal trust land at Northwood and Halverstick roads, north of Lynden.

"Sheriff Bill Elfo, Whatcom County Executive Pete Kremen and Lynden Mayor Jack Louws are among those petitioning the board to deny the license. The board has received nearly 60 opposition letters, most from community members.

"…The casino would serve liquor from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekends…"
