Gaming NewsNo negotiations planned for striking casino workers1 April 2008CHESTER, West Virginia -- As reported by the Wheeling News-Register: "The strike by some 200 members of the United Food & Commercial Workers at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort continued Monday with no negotiations scheduled. "The walkout by cashiers, attendants, count room employees and the slot machine technicians at Mountaineer's video lottery gaming area began at 12:01 a.m. Saturday after negotiations broke down late Friday. "...Mountaineer spokeswoman Tamara Pettit said, 'It was business as usual as management, supervisors and other volunteers seamlessly assumed the duties of striking personnel.' "...The union members had been working under a contract extension since their labor agreement expired March 1. But the contract extension was canceled and a strike vote approved last week when UFCW officials said there was no progress at the bargaining table on health care issues..." |
