New Mexico track managers want Raton track

NEW MEXICO -- As reported by the New Mexico Business Weekly: "Management at New Mexico's five existing racetracks have endorsed the application for a new track in Raton.

"The management of Sunland Park, SunRay Racetrack, Ruidoso Downs, the Downs at Albuquerque and Zia Park have all submitted letters to the New Mexico Racing Commission endorsing a racetrack and casino in Raton.

"The Commission soon will decide where to award the state's sixth racetrack/casino license in the state. This will most likely be the last one in New Mexico for 29 years under the terms of compacts the state signed with gaming tribes that included limiting the number of non-tribal casinos here.

"Raton is competing with the Downs at Santa Fe and another proposed track in Tucumcari for the permit..."
