New Mexico Racino Near Completion

NEW MEXICO – As reported by the Lubbock Online: "The approval process may have taken longer than planned, but Hobbs, N.M., is betting that the opening a new $45 million racetrack/casino in less than four months is worth the wait.

"…Now Hobbs and its 32,000 residents are on the fast track to a new reality, a reality that is just starting to sink in with the Nov. 15 opening of Zia Park Race Track & Black Gold Casino.

"The huge park, which is under construction near just north of Lea County Events Center off the Lovington Highway, is expected to supply 200 full-time jobs and an additional 200 jobs during the racing season.

"…Next spring, Zia will open permanent facilities for simulcasting horse races from across the country, leading up to the opening of the track and its 44-day racing season that kicks off Sept. 23, 2005.

"In addition to the mile-long track, grandstands and glass-enclosed boxes, the adjoining Black Gold Casino will feature an upscale steakhouse overlooking the gaming area as well as a buffet, bar and sports theater…"
