Nebraska politician wants to legalize slots

LINCOLN, Nebraska -- As reported by KOLN/KGIN: "Expanded gambling could be coming to Nebraska.

"If approved, a new bill by Senator Russ Karpisek of Wilber would allow a 2010 public vote to amend Nebraska's constitution, allowing video slot machines in the state's five horse racing venues.

"Supporters say Nebraska would be capturing money that, right now, is going to Iowa via it's casinos.

"Opponents say Nebraskans don't want expanded gambling because of the harm it can do to small communities.

"The Nebraska Roads Department stands to hit the jackpot if expanded gambling comes to Nebraska. $80 million in profits would come off the top of new video slot machine gambling revenues at Nebraska horse racing tracks if a new bill passes the legislature and a public vote..."
