Gaming NewsNative American tribes to gather at California casino21 November 2008INDIO, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The rich heritage of the Native American culture will be celebrated as tribal members from near and far gather at the 27th Indio Powwow at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, November 28th -30th. Held indoors at the resorts spacious Special Events Center, the 27th Indio Powwow features authentic tribal dancing, bird singing, arts and crafts and plenty of delicious Native American foods. Historically, Native American tribes have come together annually at powwows to trade, socialize and honor feats of bravery and achievement. The 27th Indio Powwow will be no different as tribes from across the United States and Canada come in elaborate regalia to show their skill in dance and singing competitions. A highlight of each powwow is the Grand Entry, when all the dancers form a procession, winding into the arena in a clockwise direction. Preceding the dancers are the Eagle Staff and the bird singers. At the Indio Powwow, the grand entries are scheduled for Friday, November 28th at 8pm, Saturday November 29th at 1pm and 8pm and Sunday November 30th at 1pm. The 27th Indio Powwow will pay tribute to those returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in special ceremonies at 11am on Saturday, November 29th and Sunday, November 30th. Visitors to the Indio Powwow will have an opportunity to taste Native American foods such as Indian Fry Bread and shop among 60 vendors for jewelry, weavings, dream catchers and other types of Native American art.
