Montana city approves new casino

BILLINGS, Montana -- As reported by KTVQ: "Billings west end will soon get a new casino after the City Council approved a motion to transfer a liquor license by a vote of 8-3 on Monday night.

"The approval of the new casino sparked a lengthy discussion, with some council members asking " how many casinos are too many?"And if casinos should be grouped together or scattered around the city?

"The issue before the council was a special review for a liquor and gaming license at 3839 Grand Avenue. Back in 2006, the council faced a similar request and rejected it on the grounds that there were already four casinos in that area.

"But now, the city's planning staff says due to business growth in the area, adding another casino near Grand and Shiloh is justified.

"Two years ago, the city had 125 casinos with liquor licenses, most of them concentrated in the Heights and the west end. But council members pointed out, it's the state that decides the number of liquor licenses in each city..."
