Michigan casino to lay off 80

PETOSKEY, Michigan -- As reported by the Petoskey News-Review: "Odawa Casino Resort is laying off employees for the second time in five months.

"On Monday, the second-largest employer in the area announced that it would lay off 80 of its employees — 37 of those being voluntary.

"According to Frank Ettawageshik, tribal chairman of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, all were full-time positions. Now, just more than 550 employees remain.

"In a release sent to the News-Review Monday, the Odawa Casino Resort cited the 'continuation of a harsh recession, fewer customers and rising operating costs' as factors leading to the lay offs..."
