Meskwaki Casino to Reopen Dec. 31

WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier: "Roxann Kragness felt estatic.

"Finally, Royal Flush's general manager will be able to tell customers that 'Yes,' the Meskwaki casino in Tama is open.

"Games will resume 10 a.m. Dec. 31, at the Meskwaki Bingo-Casino-Hotel in Tama, said Betsy McCloskey, executive director of marketing.

"…The announcement of the opening comes after the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington affirmed Thursday an earlier BIA decision to recognize the council led by Homer Bear, Jr. Then Friday, the National Indian Gaming Commission lifted the May closure order. Wells Fargo Bank officials of Marshalltown also planned to release its hold on millions of tribal funds, tribal officials said.

"National Indian Gaming Commissioner Phil Hogen, of Washington D.C. said in a prepared statement that inspectors with the commission had visited the casino recently and established that gaming controls were in place…"
